NYC OTB bailout fails

from the USTA Communications Department

Columbus, OH — The New York State Senate failed to pass a bill designed to keep New York City Off Track Betting operations afloat.

According to a story on www.timesunion.com, the 29-21 vote proceeded mostly on party lines, as leaders of the Senate Democratic conference pushed approval of the bill, which passed the Assembly late last month. The bill failed because it did not have 32 yes votes, the majority needed for passage.

State officials set a deadline of midnight Tuesday to shut down the system’s betting parlors and lay off its 900 workers.
