Sherri Holliday named Western New York Trainer of the Year

by Tim Bojarski, president, UNY-USHWA

Akron, NY — The Upstate New York Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association has announced that top conditioner Sherri Holliday will receive the 2010 Western New York Trainer of the Year Award for the second year in a row.

Sherri Holliday

Holliday has been a force on the Western New York circuit for several years now, but she has been “Queen of the Hill” for the last two. After having won this same title in 2009, Holliday took the training honors earlier this year at Buffalo Raceway and is leading the category by a comfortable margin at the current Batavia Downs Casino meet.

For the year, Holliday has scored 133 wins, 92 places and 90 show finishes for a UTR of .321 and $640,000 in purse winnings. She is currently the 26th best trainer in the nation for that UTR, just behind Virgil Morgan, Jr. Her barn has included many new additions this year and they all have performed in outstanding fashion.

This past Saturday she sent five winners postward including Sand Forever, who just scored his eighth victory since joining her barn in September. He was a $2,500 claimer at Running Aces when he arrived and under Holliday’s guidance, just beat a tough field of Open pacers at Batavia.

Sherri Holliday will receive her award in the winners circle during UNY-USHWA’s “Night of Distinction” which will be held at Batavia Downs Casino on Saturday, Dec. 4.
