Forest City girls ready for battle

by Greg Blanchard, Assistant Raceway Manager, Western Fair Raceway

London, ON — The richest race for mares at Western Fair Raceway in 2010, the C$167,000 Forest City Pace final, goes postward Saturday night (Oct. 30) at the London, Ontario half-miler.

Judging by last week’s eliminations, the final should be a very competitive event. Breeders Crown winner Dreamfair Eternal battled with A Ps Money Maker in their elimination with the former prevailing by a head.

Dreamfair Eternal heads the field of eight in the Forest City Pace Final.

Owned locally by breeder John Lamers of Ingersoll, Dreamfair Eternal is the richest performer in the field with $1.5 million on her card, $804,165 of which was earned this year. She’s drawn post eight which is the trailer at Western Fair with her regular pilot and biggest admirer Randy Waples in the sulky.

A Ps Money Maker, an invader from Alberta, has evolved into one of Canada’s top pacing mares as evidenced by her recent record setting performance at Mohawk in the Mares Open, winning in 1:49.1. She’s drawn the rail and will have Rick Zeron at the lines.

The second elimination last week was taken by Voelz Hanover who cruised to a two length, 1:54.4 victory for Mario Baillargeon. A winner of $239,021 this year and just over $855,000 in her career, Voelz Hanover finished second to Dreamfair Eternal in the Breeders Crown final earlier this month.

The 5-year-old daughter of Astreos, owned by Richard Berthiaume of Quebec, will leave from post seven on Saturday.

The Forest City, the mare companion event to Western Fair’s signature event, the Molson Pace, is slated as race 10 on Saturday and will go postward as follows:
