No trip to Italy for Wishing Stone

by Karsten Bonsdorf, USTA web newsroom correspondent

Plans to send Kentucky Futurity winner Wishing Stone to race in Europe’s richest international race for 3-year-olds, the Gran Premio Orsi Mangelli at San Siro, Milan, on November 1 have changed and the little brave trotter will stay in the United States and have a couple of more races this year.

That’s the reason why Wishing Stone is entered in the Bluegrass Series for 3-year-old trotters on Saturday (Oct. 23) at The Red Mile.

Wishing Stone might be a supplemental entry for a $25,000 fee in the Matron Stake, where the final is to be raced on November 14 at Dover Downs.

However it’s still planned that the trotter will have a future racing career in Europe and over the winter he will be shipped to Scandinavia.

The Frank Antonacci-trained Pretty Boy Lindy is the only North American entry in the Gran Premio Orsi Mangelli. The Italian driver G. Lombardo will be in the sulky.
