Salisbury, MD — There will be a basket raffle to benefit Horse Lovers United, Inc. on Monday night (Sept. 20) at Harrington Raceway in Harrington, Delaware.

Tickets are $2 or three for $5. There are five big baskets to be won. They are filled with home decor, golf items, coffee and cookies and harness racing fan items. Drawings will start after the seventh race.

Horse Lovers United is a non-profit group that helps horses, in particular Standardbred racehorses, that are no longer competitive. The goal is to find a new, loving home for these horses, preferably for the rest of their life. However, adopters are required to return the horse if circumstances make it impossible for the adopter to keep the horse.

HLU is a small group of dedicated horse lovers based in Salisbury, Maryland, and is totally volunteer staffed. A total of 130 local horses have found new homes directly through this program. Through networking efforts 700 more have been helped. A 2-year-old filly and a 4- year-old horse were among several placed in new homes in the past month.
