Daley confident in Broad Bahn

Campbellville, ON — A part of Saturday’s (Sept. 18) ultra-impressive race card at Mohawk Racetrack is the C$500,000 William Wellwood Memorial final featuring North America’s best 2-year-old trotters. One of last week’s elimination winners was Broad Bahn, who lowered the track record and equaled the all-time Canadian record for a 2-year-old trotter, winning in a career best clocking of 1:55.1.

The son of Broadway Hall was a $20,000 yearling and has already earned $89,677 for his connections. Trainer Noel Daley has sent the young trotter to Mike Vanderkemp while the horse remains in Canada to prep for the rich final.

After last week’s elimination, WEG’s media department caught up with Daley and the veteran conditioner offered his thoughts on his chances for the lion’s share of C$500,000.

“He’s a great going horse and he’s got a good attitude and he wants to do it. We had the softer of the three eliminations and I said to Jack (driver Moiseyev) that if he doesn’t do anything wrong he will leave by himself and get across. Anytime he’s been on the front they haven’t passed him, he sticks in,” Daley commented to WEG’s media department.

Broad Bahn will leave from post four for driver Jack Moiseyev and owner Fam Alber Horse Racing.

Here is a look at the field in post position order: 1. Bruce The Brave, 2. Pastor Stephen, 3. Leader Of The Gang, 4. Broad Bahn, 5. Big Rigs, 6. Gotabgoodtoblucky, 7. Delcrest Julian, 8. Big Strike, 9. Whiskey Tax, 10. Neal.

Mohawk Racetrack will offer a guaranteed pool of C$50,000 on Saturday’s early Pick-4 as part of the festivities and fans who can’t make it to the track can watch live coverage of the C$1 million Canadian Trotting Classic during a one-hour special on The Score from 9-10 p.m.
