Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs
Higher And Higher, driven by Jim Morrill, Jr., won her second straight race and fourth in eight starts this season on Wednesday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The 3-year-old Western Terror filly, trained by Paul Reid, was coming off a 1:52.1 win at Harrah’s Chester. She won the race with a time of 1:50.4, just a fifth of a second from her life mark in a race for non-winners of $8,550 life or nine extended pari-mutuel races lifetime. Special Sweetheart (Matt Kakaley), who won more than $504,000 in 2009, finished a close second behind Higher And Higher. Third place went to Quicksilvercandy A, piloted by Larry Stalbaum. Ron Burke, the meet’s leading trainer, collected a win with Secretagent Cullen. The latter, stopping the timer in 1:52.1, was driven by young Matt Kakaley.
