Wilkes-Barre, PA — Big Rigs, piloted by George Napolitano, Jr., turned in the fastest time of the freshman trotters on Monday night (August 9) at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, winning the fourth division of the Stallion Series for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings.

Trained by Kelly O’Donnell, Big Rigs was taken to the front from the six post in the seven-horse field and scored a wire-to-wire victory in 1:57. This was the first lifetime start for the Andover Hall colt.

Grateful John, trained by Steven Bush and driven by David Miller, was another wire-to-wire winner in the Stallion Series. Leaving from the six hole, Miller put the young Donerail colt on the front end right from the start of the race, stopping the timer in 1:59.2.

Broadway Legs, trained and driven by Trond Smedshammer, won another division with the timer reading 1:59.4. It was the first lifetime start for the Broadway Hall colt.

The most exciting stakes race of the night came when Way Back When, driven by John Campbell, flew down the stretch to win by a half-length over 4-5 favorite Slickster (Miller) in a time of 1:59.4. Sitting fifth at the top of the stretch and several lengths back of Slickster, Way Back When was full of trot and in high gear in winning his division. Jim Campbell trains Way Back When, a Broadway Hall colt who was also starting for the first time ever.
