Yonkers hosts Mildred Williams Series on Monday

by Frank Drucker, publicity director, Yonkers Raceway

Yonkers, NY — The Mildred Williams International Driving Series makes its annual Yonkers Raceway visit on Monday night, August 9, competing in a race where there are bound to be lots and lots of winners.

The lady drivers-only competition has traversed North America for the past few years, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities primarily associated with breast cancer research.

All the drivers donate their fees, and the host venues — including Yonkers Raceway — make a contribution to the worthiest of causes. The Raceway’s organization of choice remains the Kelly Rooney Foundation. Based in Wayne, Pennsylvania, its mission is funding research, education, awareness and outreach programs focused on breast cancer prevention.

The Mildred Williams event goes as the third race (approximate post 8 p.m.) on the 12-race card (post time 7:10 p.m.).

Doreen Dailey, Yonkers’ defending Mildred Williams champ, tries to repeat when she escorts The Travelling Man from post position No. 3.

The role of early favorite has been accorded to 2007 Yonkers stop winner Kelly Case, who gets acquainted with Albert Street A from post No. 6.

The complete field, with drivers and morning line odds: 1-Goodbye Gary (Leah Vandervort, 5-1); 2-Jumpin Jack Flash (Anits Valstad, 12-1); 3-The Travelling Man (Doreen Dailey, 6-1); 4-Mon Ami Hall (Megan Fortna, 6-1); 5-Torero Hall (Elisabeth Jansen, 4-1); 6-Albert Street A (Kelly Case, 3-1); 7-Racketeer (Stacy Chiodo, 8-1); and 8-Pembroke Cushy (Stacey McLenaghan, 8-1).

Yonkers’ current live schedule (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday) remains in effect, with first post at 7:10 p.m. Evening simulcasting accompanies all live programs, with afternoon simulcasting available around the NYRA schedule.
