Scarborough, ME — Current Chip remains the current sensation in the State of Maine trotting circles as a 3-year-old state-bred filly. In Thursday’s Breeders Stake races at Scarborough Downs she maintained her unblemished record, extending her winning streak to eleven consecutive trips down Victory Lane.

Current Chip (with driver Mark Athearn) remains undefeated in Sire Stakes action this season.

Owned by the tandem of Tom Dillon and Walter Hight and trained by Hall-of-Famer Donald Richards, Current Chip was guided once again by driver Mark Athearn while securing a brand new lifetime mark of 2:03.2.

Stakes action resumes on Saturday, July 17 with the 3-year-old filly pacers, providing the undercard for the marquis pacing event of the season during Scarborough Downs’ 60th Anniversary celebration, the $25,000 Mid-Summer Classic. Post time is 4 pm.

Saturday Marks Scarborough Downs 60th Anniversary Celebration

Scarborough Downs celebrates its 60th racing season with a gala celebration on Saturday, July 17 with the $25,000 Mid-Summer Classic Pacing Series final taking center stage. Post time is 4 pm.

The field for the marquis pacing event has been narrowed down to 6 after three elimination legs were held over the last three weeks.

The Kevin Switzer coupled entries, Roman Conqueror N and Shady Sabrina, come in as the morning line favorites, at 2-1 odds, followed by the Valerie Grondin Stable’s Doubleshotascotch at 5-2 odds.

“Doubleshotascotch absolutely exploded once he was shown daylight late in the lane last week,” said track announcer Mike Sweeney. “And with Shady Sabrina the only mare in the field, this event will be a true battle of the sexes, reminiscent of the Bobby Riggs versus Billy Jean King showdown.” Shady Sabrina, he notes, is rightly acknowledged as one of the finest aged pacing mares on the Eastern Seaboard right now, having smashed a Scarborough Downs track record for aged mares over the July 4 weekend in the second leg of the series.

The line up is as follows:
PP Horse Driver Trainer Odds
1 ROMAN CONQUEROR N Rob Dinning Kevin Switzer 2-1
