Current Chip leads Maine Sire Stakes winners

Scarborough, ME — Maine Sire Stakes action continued at Scarborough Downs on Thursday, July 8, as the 3-year-old state-bred trotters returned to the Seaside Oval for the first time this season.

Current Chip equaled her lifetime best, cruising the course in 2:04 with driver Mark Athearn calling the shots.

When last seen on the local oval Current Chip was completing her undefeated freshman campaign with a rousing victory in the $52,611 stakes final last October. The daughter of Current Cast picked up right where she left off, mounting a dominating performance as she wired and demolished her stakes contenders.

Owned by Thomas Dillon and Walter Hight and trained by the venerable Donald Richards, Current Chip equaled her lifetime best, cruising the course in 2:04 with driver Mark Athearn calling the shots.

Others stakes winners on the program included Pembroke Champion (Heath Campbell), Glory Hallelujah (Gordon Corey), Penny Prim (Heath Campbell), and Willin Dylan (Ivan Davies).

Stakes action returns to Scarborough Downs on Sunday, July 11, with the 3-year-old colt pacers taking center stage. Katahdin Boy bids to remain undefeated during his sophomore campaign. Post time will be at 1:30 p.m.
