Indiana mare registrations due June 1

by Jessica Barnes, director of racing and breed development, Indiana Horse Racing Commission

Indianapolis, IN — Registrations for Standardbred mares which are going to reside in the state of Indiana for the 2010-2011 breeding season (for foals of 2011) are due June 1, 2010.

Mare owners who desire to have 2011 foals eligible as either Indiana Sired and Bred (ISB) or Indiana Bred (IB) must register their mare and have them reside in Indiana by June 1, 2010.

The Standardbred Breed Development Program offers three levels of eligibility in which a foal may fall under. Two of these categories, Indiana Sired and Bred and Indiana Bred, require that the mare of the foal be registered and reside in the state by June 1 prior to the year of foaling.

Please note that only mares that are going to reside in the State of Indiana and participate in the Indiana Sired & Bred or Indiana Bred portion of the program need to be registered with the Indiana Horse Racing Commission.

The Standardbred Breed Development Program is offering over $17 million in purses and awards to program participants during 2010. For more information about this program or to download a registration form, please visit our website at www.in.gov/hrc or contact us at (317) 233-3119.
