Monica Jean Legge, 49, dies

Columbus, OH — Monica Jean Legge, 49, of Owego, N.Y., died at home Feb. 27, 2010 after a long struggle with throat cancer.

Ms. Legge loved animals, especially horses. She worked with Standardbreds for more than 30 years. Among her employers were Jerry and Richie Silverman and Team Nordin, both of Florida; Maple Ridge Farms of New York; and White Birch Farms of New Jersey. She also worked the sales at Harrisburg for Bob Boni. She took care of My Melissa p,3,T1:53 ($183,305) and Working Gal 3,1:57.1f ($384,650), when she won the 1990 Hambletonian Oaks.

She is survived by her brother, Thomas; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Joan; grandfather, Herbert “Hub” Brown; and brother, John.

Her friends will be gathering at The Red Mile in Lexington, Ky., on Oct. 3, 2010 for a special memorial tribute. In her memory they will be wearing tie-dye clothing and flip-flops. An open invitation is extended to all who wish to attend.
