Sakic Seelster scored a solid 1:55.1 front-end victory on Sunday afternoon.

A single C$50,000 division, with 11 starters, lined up behind the gate in Sunday’s contest and driver Mario Baillargeon wasted no time in putting his charge on an easy lead through the first quarter of :27.4.

Baillargeon then used longshot Tropicana Ron, who had been parked out since the outset, as a pick in the second quarter and stole away with an opening half in :57.2. Another longshot, Macho Lindy, was able to follow in the pocket position while the other favorites in the race were mired in traffic.

Sakic Seelster was able to take advantage of the situation and built up his lead at the third marker in 1:26.3 before turning on the afterburners with a :28.3 final quarter. Race favorite, Armbro Chronicle, who started from the second tier, wove his way through traffic late to nip Macho Lindy for the place spot with Mapleleaf Buddy finishing fourth.

The winner returned a generous $11.70.

It was the 18th career win for Sakic Seelster who was also victorious in last weekend’s opening leg of the series for trainer Ben Baillargeon and for owners Santo and Nunzio Vena of Bolton, Ontario.

The C$90,000 Glorys Comet Trotting Series final will go postward next Sunday afternoon at Woodbine.
