Gabrielles Girl wins Distaff Pace at Dover

Dover, DE — Gabrielles Girl made it two straight wins in Dover Downs distaff feature notching a 1:54 victory in the $26,000 Filly and Mare pace on Tuesday, Dec. 29. Lofty Widget won for the second time in three races in the $22,000 Mares pace.

Eric Goodell and Gabrielles Girl held off fast closing Chloes Silver Star and Ron Pierce to score her fifth win of the year in the last female feature of 2009. Owned by former Minnesota Twins World Series winning manager Tom Kelly and Margaret Mancini, the Camotion-Cheryl’s Place mare made the final start of her 4-year-old calendar year a winning one boosting her seasonal earnings to $76,183. In her previous start, she won a $22,000 Mares Jr. Open. Sherri On Ice finished third with Vince Copeland in the bike.

Lofty Widget won the $22,000 sub-feature for female pacers as Corey Callahan guided the Pacific Fella-Lofty Aspirations 6-year-old to a 1:54.2 victory, her seventh of the campaign, bringing her seasonal earnings to $98,225. Gary Evans and Foulk Stable’s claimed Lofty Widget after winning a $25,000 event. Alice’s Restaurant left early and came on late for Ron Pierce to finish second. Alpine Gold N raced strongly for Tony Morgan but had to settle for third.
