Milestone mania at Scarborough Downs

Scarborough, ME — While veteran driver Leigh Fitch continues his steady climb toward his 7,500th career victory, Scarborough’s top-rated pilot Drew Campbell has flown under the radar in recent weeks to approach within reach of his own latest milestone — the 2,500th win of his driving career.

Drew Campbell is in the catbird seat with Bird’s Eye View N, one of five wins on Sunday’s program for the meet’s leading driver.

Campbell capped off an astonishing weekend on Sunday (Nov. 29) by teaming five winners down victory lane after securing four-win performances on both Friday and Saturday at the Downs. He can now boast top-place finishes in 2,494 lifetime efforts.

Fitch, on the other hand, won five dashes during the three-day weekend period and now stands on the precipice of his latest landmark pinnacle — needing just three more driving wins to reach the 7,500 victory mark.

“I’ve had a good day — a good weekend,” Campbell remarked as he entered the Scarborough Downs winner’s circle for the fifth time on Sunday. “And the Fox (Fitch) has had a great weekend too. Hopefully there will be a couple of celebrations here next weekend.”

The champagne is on ice, the placards have been prepared and Scarborough Downs stands ready to become party central next weekend as history once again is made at Maine’s seaside harness oval.

Milestone mania continues in Maine.

Scarborough Downs proudly features live harness racing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 12:05 p.m. (EST).
