Filion sweeps both Autumn Stake eliminations

Toronto, ON — Driver Sylvain Filion reined home both winners in the Autumn Stake eliminations for 2-year-old filly pacers on Thursday night (Nov. 26) at Woodbine Racetrack.

V C Asteroid was a 1:56 winner in the opening split of the Autumn Stake.

He clicked first in the opening C$20,000 split with V C Asteroid who swept from sixth at the half to win convincingly in 1:56. The daughter of Astreos-Cambloid turned in a :28.1 final quarter to easily haul down Kim’s Quest and Mobro Flirt for the win.

V C Asteroid returned $10.20 in notching her second win in nine outings this season. The Gord Remmen trainee now sits with $29,152 in earnings for owners Frank Schimizzi, Frank Spagnolo and Saverino and Graziano Spagnolo.

Filion also guided Perfume N Pearls to an upset victory from post nine in the second elimination. The daughter of Mach Three-Pearl Berley left alertly and worked out a perfect two-hole trip which she converted to victory in 1:55.2 over Racy Gal Hanover and Lucky Jeans.

It was the second win in nine tries this season for Perfume N Pearls who is trained by Ben Wallace for the Springhaven Farm and Doug Millard. The winner’s share of the purse vaulted her to $19,488 in seasonal earnings.

The C$40,000 Autumn Stake Final for 2-year-old pacing fillies will go postward next Thursday night (Dec. 3) from Woodbine.
