Three in a row for Fox Valley Roper

Monticello, NY — Fox Valley Roper won the $7,500 pacing feature in 1:56.2 at Monticello Raceway on November 24, which marked the veteran gelding’s third consecutive victory here. Billy Dobson drove the winner for trainer Ross Claridge and once again Dobson used the front-end route to victory.

After stating from the pole position Dobson got away with a relatively easy opening quarter, racing unchallenged by the first stanza in :29. But after that challenges came from Three Town Hero (Jimmy Taggart, Jr.) and Tricky Grin (Jordan Stratton).

With Fox Valley Roper and Three Town Hero going head to head up the backstretch, Stratton moved Tricky Grin three-deep and got around Taggart’s pacer on the final turn. But in the lane Fox Valley Roper proved too much and went on to a 1-1/2 length victory over Tricky Grin. Thee Town Hero hung on for third money.

It was the fifth victory of the season for Fox Valley Roper, who is owned by Christa Claridge.

In other news, Stratton won three races, giving him a total of 185 at the Mighty M and 449 overall for the season which ranks him ninth in North America. His purse total of $6,015,912 is 16th best and is a new record for the 22-year-old reinsman who began his career at the Mighty M.
