Ohio Sires Stakes committee to host open meeting

from the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Assn.

Columbus, OH — The OHHA Ohio Sires Stake Committee will hold an open meeting Friday, December 4, at 1:00 p.m. in the OHHA/USTA office building, 800 Michigan Ave., Columbus.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the 2010 Ohio Sires Stakes program and prepare for the Ohio Standardbred Development Fund Committee’s final public meeting on December 11, at 1:00 p.m. in room 1932 of the Riffe Center, 77 S. High St., Columbus.

OSDF administrator Doug Thomas will be present to address the financial aspects of the 2010 OSS program and has received three possible suggestions to begin discussion of the 2010 program.

  • Four legs at $15,000 and finals (Sept. 4 or 11) estimated at $40,000
  • Four legs at $15,000 (beginning in July for 3-year olds and August for 2-year olds) and finals in late October estimated at $60,000- $75,000
  • A program with as many $15,000 legs as possible (6-7) as proposed revenue would allow. There would be no final with the highest point winner in each division deemed the champion and receiving a bonus check (est. $5,000) and an award. This plan would require the Ohio Legislature to pass a change to Section 3769.085(c) of the Ohio Revised Code.
