Longshot Marietta Hall wins Open Handicap Pace for Fillies and Mares

Marietta Hall, a 14-1 longshot, won the $30,000 Open I Handicap Pace for fillies and mares Wednesday night.

Driven by Andrew McCarthy and trained by Tracy Brainard, the 5-year-old Cambest mare caught and nipped the front running Go On BB (Greg Grismore) right at the wire. Time of the mile was 1:52.2.

Go On BB, trained by Ron Burke and coming off an Invitational win at Indiana Downs in 1:51.1, left quickly from the seven post to grab the lead, taking the seven-horse field to the opening quarter in :27, the half in :56.2 and the three-quarters in 1:24.2.

Marietta Hall, owned by the Bulletproof Enterprises, was fourth for the first half of the mile and fifth at the three-quarters. She was in high gear coming down the stretch to just win by a neck over the newcomer Go On BB with Ubetterthink Think, last week’s winner, finishing third.
