Lexington Selected Sale concludes on Sunday
October 12, 2009,by David Carr
Lexington, KY — The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale concluded with a lengthy session on Sunday, in which 233 youngsters sold for an average price of $12,322. After posting average prices of about 13 percent lower than last year for the first four sessions, Sunday’s session slumped to a 27 percent decline. Over the course of the entire sale, a total of 800 yearlings sold at an average price of $34,786, a reduction of 14 percent.
Despite the fascination with first crop sires exhibited all week, it was an old timer who led the way on Sunday. Cambest, with 13 crops racing and still the possessor of the fastest record in harness racing history, sired the sale topper Mar Dream, a colt out of Mary Sue Too. This was the first foal from this dam, a sister to two winners of more than $200,000. Nadja Dziambor, agent for Axel Wend of Switzerland, had the high bid of $60,000 for this pacer consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing for D Farm LLC.
A first crop sire, American Ideal, did produce the runner-up for the session. Myron Bell, agent, signed the slip for $50,000 for this colt, Lima Regal, who was out of the mare Rose Parade. Steiner Stock Farm bred and consigned the youngster.
The highest priced trotter, and third overall during Sunday’s session, was the filly Social Queen, by Daguet Rapide out of Destiny’s Vision S. Marie Ortolan had the final bid of $45,000 for this filly from the Saga Farm agent consignment.
