Southwind Tempo, Tug River Princess to race in Allerage

One of the sport’s richest pacing mares ever, Southwind Tempo, and Breeders Crown runner-up, Tug River Princess, are on their way to the Red Mile to compete in the Allerage this Saturday afternoon, Oct. 10. It the be the final start of the season for both distaffers.

“It’s the last major stake of the year and they will be getting a nice break,” said co-owner Eric Cherry, who with Jerry Silva campaigns Southwind Tempo, the 5-year-old daughter of Bettor’s Delight who has earned $881,475 this season to push her career earnings to over $2.1 million. “After the race, they’re off to my South Florida Trotting Center for a well reserved rest.”

Cherry and Silva co-own Tug River Princess with Robert Cooper Stables. A 4-year-old daughter of Badlands Hanover, Tug River Princess has $413,755 in earnings this year and $1.3 million lifetime.

“At this point in time it seems that we will bring both horses back next year as they are both completely healthy and sound,” Cherry said.
