Living Legends to race on Labor Day card at Plainridge

Plainville, MA — An array of the top harness racing drivers in New England history will be back in the sulky as part of the Labor Day racing card at Plainridge Racecourse.

The Legends Driving Challenge, featuring those who have been inducted into the New England Harness Racing Wall of Fame at Plainridge, will compete in a three-race tournament as part of the holiday card that will be headlined by the $75,000 Bert Beckwith Memorial Pace and the $26,000 Stan Bergstein Pace for 3-year-olds.

Invited to compete in this year’s Legends Challenge are Paul Battis, Willard Beckwith, Peter Blood, Greg Bowden, Jim Doherty, Leigh Fitch, John Hogan, Stephen O’Toole, Bruce Ranger and Ted Wing.

This will be the third consecutive year that Plainridge has hosted the Legends Challenge. Former Plainridge leading driver Bruce Ranger won the 2007 event while former Plainridge leading driver Greg Bowden was the winner of the 2008 event.

Also part of the Labor Day festivities will be the introduction of the newest member of the New England Harness Racing Wall of Fame.

It will be a full weekend of activities at Plainridge Racecourse. Sunday evening, the New England Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association will hold their Hall of Fame dinner in the Plainridge Clubhouse.

Post time for the fall meet is 1 p.m. Plainridge’s fall meet will include racing on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and will continue through November 28.
