ORC Out-of-Competition Program now includes stakes races

from the Ontario Racing Commission

Toronto, ON — At its February 2009 meeting, the Board of the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) approved enhancements to the Out-of-Competition Program to now include horses in added money events. Any horse, once entered to race in a stakes race in Ontario, may be selected for testing under the Program.

One of the most effective tools in maintaining the fairness and integrity of horse racing has been the “out-of-competition testing” program, first introduced by the ORC in May 2006.

Through its regulatory actions, the ORC is fulfilling its mandate and sending a strong message to all involved in racing that the illegal use of a therapeutic or non-therapeutic drug will not be tolerated.
