East Rutherford, NJ — Special Report wore down Mypanmar at the wire to capture his $50,000 Presidential series division on Saturday night at the Meadowlands.
Special Report, with driver Larry Stalbaum, benefited from a pocket trip and battled hard against Mypanmar in the final strides, edging him out by a neck in 1:50.1. Fake Denario N finished third.
Special Report paid $4.20 to win the night’s third race.
“He was good tonight,” trainer Kimberly Asher said after the victory. “He raced hard. He has been his normal self [around the barn] and is staying sound. He jogged back nice from the winner’s circle, which is a good indication that he is sound. I am looking forward to next week, but I am nervous.”
The 6-year-old son of Keystone Raider increased his lifetime earnings to $630,457 for owner Hugo Iodice of Bayonne, New Jersey.
In the fifth race, second division, Jilliby Generator kicked a quick 27.4 last-quarter to overtake the lead and win by a length in 1:50.4. Mr Feelgood came in second and it was a length back to Palone Ranger in third.
The Presidential series concludes with a $126,500 final next Saturday, January 26.
