Gary Kamal dies

MARLBOROUGH, MA – Gary Kamal, one of New England’s top harness drivers, died Saturday night in Albany, N.Y.

Mr. Kamal succumbed to head injuries he suffered from on track accidents during his racing career.

Gary was a much sought after driver on the New England circuit, especially at Foxboro Raceway and Rockingham Park where his driving skills in the days of Bert Beckwith, John Hogan, Jim Doherty, Bucky Day and Bob Tisbert were much in demand.

His friend, James Winske of Marlborough, was with him when he passed away. He described Gary has a gentleman and an outstanding horseman.

Kamal was a member of the Plainridge Racecourse Hall of Fame and during his racing career he compiled 2,193 career wins.

He leaves his wife, Karen and a daughter, Milisa.
