Lexington, KY — Just as trotters grabbed the major share of the headlines on the racetrack in Lexington at The Red Mile this weekend, trotters continued to seize the spotlight at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale.

All three of the yearlings selling for at least $100,000 during Saturday’s session were trotters, and the average prices for squaregaiters continue to lead by healthy margins over those of their pacing counterparts.

Through four sessions, the sale is averaging $56,641 for the 569 yearlings sold. This represents an increase of 13 percent over a very successful sale in 2006 at the same juncture.

Topping the sale on Saturday was Just Picture It, a colt by Yankee Glide out of Miss Photogenic, an unraced dam of a pair of $400,000 winners, Lovelytobehold and Pickaflick. Mario Mazza phoned in the winning bid of $137,000 for this Kentuckiana Farms-bred youngster.

Although Yankee Glide did not sire the session runner-up, he had a connection to this filly Flirty Flight by being the full brother to the dam Yankee Phoenix. Conway Hall gets the siring credit for the filly, purchased for $125,000 by Continental Farm from the breeding partnership of Kentuckiana Farms and KG Bertmarks Hingstdepa AB.

Continental Farm will also be taking home the remaining six-figure yearling from Saturday’s session. Broadwind is a colt from the second crop of Broadway Hall, and is out of the mare Brynderwyn. Northwood Bloodstock consigned the yearling for Jeff Gural’s Allerage Farm.
