by Carol Hodes, for the SBOA of New Jersey

Freehold, NJ — With the two favorites breaking early in the race, One Tough Lass picked up the pieces and coasted to a 6-3/4 length victory in the $67,150 Harold Dancer Filly Trot, the featured second race on Tuesday, September 18, at Freehold Raceway.

The Harold Dancer is for 2-year-old trotting fillies bred in New Jersey and is sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey.

One Tough Lass ($10.20, $4.60, $2.60) trotted the mile in 2:00 flat to post her second win along with three thirds from six starts.

The daughter of Muscles Yankee–Timberlassie lifted her career bankroll to $50,742 for Jon Ernder of Canonsburg, Pa. and William Neumeister of Bakersfield, Calif., who acquired her on April 15, 2007.

The Ross Croghan trainee, driven by Jim Pantaleano, grabbed the lead off the gate and easily drew off to victory. Sierra Marvel ($4.20, $3.20) won the battle for second by a length over Smart Dream ($4.80). Both Sierra Marvel and Smart Dream are daughters of Dream Vacation.

Previously unbeaten Muscle Shirt (Muscles Yankee) broke at the start and finished fourth, suffering her first loss in four career starts. Fantasy Yankee (Muscles Yankee), first or second in four of her first six starts, finished last in the field of five.

The stakes record since the Harold Dancer Filly moved to Freehold in 2000 is 1:59 flat set by Lovely in 2005. While it was hosted on the mile track at Garden State Park, the stakes record of 1:57.3 belonged to Bobbi Jo Mac (1997).
