SBOANJ to host yearling seminar

by Carol Hodes, for the SBOA of New Jersey

Manalapan, NJ — Yearlings are all about promise and potential — and risk.

But there is a seminar taking place on September 8 that will at least help answer some of the questions about buying young pacers and trotters and open the door to more informed horse ownership.

It is the Yearling Pedigree & Conformation Seminar, presented by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association through its New Owners Program. The event is on September 8 at the Horse Park of New Jersey in Allentown, just down the road from Great Adventure.

The timing is perfect — the next day is the New Jersey Classic Sale which will take place at the same location.

The program will include discussions on the risks and rewards of buying yearlings, costs, trainer selection, pedigree and conformation.

Dale Welk, general manager of the Garden State Horse Sales Company, will speak about the policies and procedures of a public auction.

Bob Boni, owner and manager of Northwood Bloodstock Agency, Inc., will discuss pedigree and conformation.

The session is scheduled from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. There is no cost for the program, however, pre-registration is required and there are limited spots.

For more information or to register, please contact Nancy Webster Peck, Director of the SBOANJ New Owners Program, at newowners@sboanj.com or call (866) 417-4644.
