NJSS opens ‘second season’ at Freehold

Trenton, NJ — The New Jersey Sires Stakes, which recently completed its Pari-Mutuel Division racing program at The Meadowlands, begins its “second season” at Freehold Raceway on Thursday, August 9, with Green Acres Division racing for 2-year-old pacing colts and for 3-year-old filly pacers.

NJSS Green Acres competition will continue on Friday, August 10, for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings.

The Green Acres series consists of four legs and a $35,000 final in each of eight divisions of 2- and 3-year-old pacers and trotters during August, September and October.

The Pari-Mutuel Division series, which will consist of three legs and an $85,000 final in each of eight divisions, will begin at Freehold starting Saturday, August 11, with competition for 2-year-old pacing colts.

Other stakes races for New Jersey-sired pacers and trotters dominate the fall schedule at Freehold.

In addition to the NJSS program, there will be six other stakes events, including the $90,000 Helen Smith Filly Trot on August 17, $80,000 Harold R. Dancer Filly Trot on September 18, $90,000 Dancer Open Trot on September 19, $110,000 Charles I. Smith Trot on October 19, and $175,000 Lou Babic Open Pace and $85,000 Babic Filly Pace on October 20.
