Northfield, OH — 2-year-old fillies made their Ohio Sires Stakes debut on Friday (June 29) at Northfield with five $20,000 pacing events and four $20,000 trots. The races were long on action, but short on mutuel return to the fans.

The evening kicked off with a trot that was taken by 2-1 second choice Less Stress, going gate-to-wire in an impressive 2:00.4. The daughter of Pegasus Spur is owned by Ernest Ayers of Sand Creek, Michigan. Troy Boring drove the winner for trainer Brian Boring. She was more than six lengths better than runner-up Mickey Lavec, while My Claudette finished third.

An Emile Angus daughter, 3-5 She’s Not Red, scored by a nose in 2:03.4 in the second trot, defeating Skylars Dream and Chip Chat. Trainer Scott Mogan shares title to the filly with Ron Anderson and William Johnson II. Ray Paver, Jr. picked up the drive in the absence of scheduled pilot Bob Harper and he took advantage, rallying from third to get the win.

Howard Taylor and Judith Taylor, Edwin Gold and Abraham Basen’s Queen Of Lavec took the next trot, with Harper in the bike. Mickey Burke trained the 2-5 daughter of Master Lavec, whose 2:01.4, gate-to-wire win was 4-1/4 lengths better than Discover Gold, with Hooray For Melody finishing third.

The final $20,000 trotting split went to 2-1 Carly’s Crown. Chris Page drove the Corleone daughter for trainer William Jarbo and his Jarbo Enterprises. A 10-length, 2:03 winner, she bested Jennys Jammies and Barbs Best.

Tennessee breeder-owner Mark Wooten’s Cruzin Inya Jammys ($3.40) took the first pace with a quarter-move by driver Kyle Ater. The 1:58.3 mile was one fifth of a second faster than place finisher Ccshakeurmunymaker, with Sky Ridge Cher third. Dan Ater trains the daughter of Yankee Cruiser.

Another Yankee Cruiser daughter, Corner Cruiser ($4.60), was also victorious in 1:58.3 in her $20,000 Sires split for trainer-driver Chip Noble and owner Stephen Sexton. She closed from well back to take the measure of Sand Feathers and Nature’s Course.

Yankee Pankee BB overcame post eight for Tony Hall to give trainer Mickey Burke a second Sires win in an impressive 1:56. Owned by Sylvia Burke, Frank Baldachino and Weaver Bruscemi, she led at every call, despite being parked to a :28.2 quarter. The $4.20 winner defeated Magnificent Maui and Cruise Rate. She is yet another Yankee Cruiser daughter.

After a break for a couple overnight events that saw Erika DeLong’s Dynastar extend her win streak to three in the $9,000 Mares Open, Medoland Taranicol posted a 1:58.3 Sires win for Tammy Hoovler, trainer and co-owner Mike Medors and Dick and Elizabeth Brandt. Russ Swartz drove the daughter of Yankee Cruiser, as his get dominated on the night.

Lucky Sadie avoided a Yankee Cruiser sweep in the final $20,000 pacing heat. The daughter of Sadies Dreamboat bested Yankee’s Royalty, who was 1-3/4 lengths from giving her dad a sweep on the night. Scott Cox trains the winner, who scored in 1:59, for Crystal Ball Stables and Mike Cimaglio.
