Deuce looks to take two

by Harness Racing Communications, a division of the USTA

Armbro Deuce will bring a three-race win streak into Thursday’s Little Brown Jug and hasn’t finished off the board since being fifth in his North America Cup elimination – a span of eight starts. The “Deuce Man” won the $452,120 Confederation Cup on August 20 at Flamboro Downs by sweeping the elims and final on the same day. His time of 1:50.2 in the final equaled the world record for three-year-olds on a half-mile track.

He will start from post four in the third of three first-round heats in the Jug and is 7-2 in the morning line, behind Took Hanover (2-1) and Western Ace (5-2). The division also includes Nat Christie winner Armbo Damien and Jereme’s Jet, who was voted the sport’s best two-year-old male pacer in 2005.

“It looks pretty tough; the toughest division is definitely ours,” trainer Blair Burgess said. “It’s not a horrible post; I’d rather have the one, but the four is a lot better than the eight. He’s really unbelievable off the gate; they’re going to have to deal with him. If he’s anything like he was at Flamboro, he’ll be tough.”

Armbro Deuce, who is coming off a 1:51.2 win in a Simcoe division at Mohawk Racetrack on September 9, is a good traveler who is none the worse for wear as the season goes into the fall.

“He’s better; grown some, filled out some, matured a little bit,” Burgess said.
