CAMPBELLVILLE – The 2006 Battle of Waterloo victor Warrawee Ideal ($9.90, $4.60, $3.80) was sharp Saturday evening at Mohawk for driver Jody and trainer Carl Jamieson, as the Million Dollar Cam colt recorded a life’s best mile of 1:53.1 in the first of two C$173,200 divisions of the Nassagaweya Stakes for two-year-olds.

Jamieson left hard from post six and tripped the quarter-mile timer in 27.1 before yielding to Twin B Impact, who had been parked from the outset. With May June Character quickly charging for the lead from fourth, Jamieson tipped his mount out just in time and set dead aim on the pacesetter.

Intent on the lead, driver Jack Moiseyev sent May June Character three-wide along the backstretch and cleared to the point before passing the half-mile marker in 55.3. The duo would hold their position passed the 1:24.4 three quarters of a mile pole, but it was all Warrawee Ideal in the lane, popping out from the pocket and powering to a convincing score.

Driver John Campbell and Domitian Hanover ($10.70, $6.80) closed well to cut the winning margin to three-quarters of a length and bottom the $86.60 exactor. Arduous and pilot Ron Pierce followed suit, coming home well to finish one and one-quarter lengths back of Warrawee Ideal, completing the lucrative $1,963.50 triactor.

Carl Jamieson co-owns Warrawee Ideal along with the George Arthur Stable, Fred Brayford and Robin Raine.

From the win, Warrawee Ideal now sports a 2006 resume which reads 4-3-0 from 12 starts.

Two Twentytwo wins a wild Nassagaweya split

They were well back in the early going, but Two Twentytwo ($4.60, $2.60, $2.40) and driver Roger Mayotte escaped unscathed from a bumpy C$173,200 division of the Nassagaweya Stakes for two-year-old pacers Saturday evening at Mohawk, posting a mark-lowering 1:52.2 mile for trainer Rheal Bourgeois.

There was plenty of the tussling on the front-end through the opening quarter (:27.1) and half (:55.4), but after getting away third-last, Mayotte was able work out a second-over trip for Two Twentytwo, a Blissfull Hall chestnut who is a homebred of Orlean, New York’s Dominic Colarusso Jr.

Two Twentytwo still sat second-over after the 1:24.2 three-quarters pole, but his cover tucked in at the beginning of the stretch, leaving him exposed for a few seconds. When his cover swung back out for his own shot at the lead, Mayotte had to check his mount, adjust, and kick Two Twentytwo back into gear for the three-quarters of a length victory.

Charley Barley ($3.80, $3.00) and driver Ron Pierce finished second and bottomed the $15.50 exactor, while Just Plug It In ($2.90) and pilot John Campbell finished four lengths back in third and completed the $39.60 triactor.
