Haughton Memorial winner dead

Four-year-old pacer Leading X Ample died early Friday morning at Purdue University in Indiana. The winner of this year’s William R. Haughton Memorial was scheduled to start in Saturday’s American National Final for Aged Pacers at Balmoral Park.

Leading X Ample, who had earnings of $531,765 this season and $1,149,279 lifetime, was trained by Bill Elliott and owned by the Leading X Ample Stable of Port Perry, ON.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
