CBC elims dominate weekend at Mohawk

The fillies will highlight the Friday night program, with the trotters heading behind the wings for races three (8:00 p.m.) and four (8:20 p.m.), and the pacers lining up for the eighth (9:40 p.m.) and tenth (10:20 p.m.) dashes.
The colts and geldings will take center stage on Saturday, with the pacers performing in races one (7:20 p.m.), three (8:01 p.m.) and seven (9:25 p.m.). A pair of elims for the trotters have also been drawn, carded as the second (7:40 p.m.) and fourth (8:22 p.m.) races on the night.
The finals for the C$200,000 (est.) colt pace, C$165,000 (est.) colt trot, C$200,000 (est.) filly pace and C$165,000 (est.) filly trot are scheduled for Saturday, July 30 at Mohawk.
21 trotting fillies have been drawn into a pair of C$32,569 elims set for Friday, featuring Elena, Merry Rules, Honour Way and Fan Favourite.
Also on Friday, 16 pacing fillies have been drawn into a pair of C$32,721 eight horse elims. Serenity Seelster, Tattootina, Lucks Mistress, Lady Dillinger, Ingrid Bergrin and Lady D M are all set to be in action.
A total of 24 pacing colts and geldings have required three C$24,873 eight horse elims on Saturday. Wayne LA, Grand Bend Turbo, Banner Yankee, Isle Of Patmos, Silent Swing, Zooka and Putnam Romeo have all been drawn in.
A pair of C$33,035 nine horse elims for the trotting colts and geldings have also been assembled for Saturday. Travelin Lite, Last Flight Out, Classic Lavec and Brawn Seelster are some of the participants scheduled.

Dream Card captures Town Pro finale
Dream Card and driver Steve Condren overcame both a first-over trip and the dreaded 10 hole to nail the wire in 1:52.3 on Monday evening at Mohawk during the eighth installment of the Town Pro Series for three-year-old pacing fillies.

Sent off as the 3-1 third choice, Dream Card ($8.90, $5.60, $3.00) posted a half length victory over the favoured Ifyoucouldcwhati C ($4.40, $3.40), who bottomed out the $43.90 exactor with Luc Ouellette aboard. Bound For Glory ($2.80), who with reinsman Paul MacDonell raced from behind in the early going, closed strongly to pick up third, finishing two lengths in arrears and completing the $135.30 triactor.
Conditioned by Blair Burgess for Bob Burgess of Campbellville and Karin Olsson Burgess of Milton, Ontario, Dream Card, a bay daughter of Dream Away, paced back to her life’s mark with the mile. She had set that mark with a going away two and a quarter length tally in the series’ opening leg, and the filly’s connections opted to skip the second leg and head straight into the final.
The $47,708 career earner was fifth at the :27 quarter pole and held that position while racing on the outside at the :55.2 half-mile indicator. Two lengths off the lead in third, Dream Card kept up on the outer tier as the third call was rung up in 1:24. On top by two lengths at the head of the lane, Condren got the most out of the filly and she fired home strongly, holding off Ifyoucouldcwhati C and Bound For Glory at the wire.
Dream Card, a daughter of the Cam’s Card Shark mare Queens Over Jacks, was unraced as a two-year-old, but has come on strong so far in her three-year-old campaign. In her seven starts she has compiled a respectable resume with four wins and one third place finish in seven starts.
