Rainbow Blue goes for 13th straight victory in Lady Liberty

from Meadowlands Media Relations

You know your horse is having a pretty successful career when she’s won 12 races in a row, but still needs to reel off five more to top her previous best streak for consecutive victories. Such is the case for defending Horse of the Year Rainbow Blue, who will be looking for her 13th straight triumph in Friday night’s $215,000 Lady Liberty at the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey.

Rainbow Blue, trained by George Teague Jr., has won 30 of 32 lifetime races and earned $1.4 million. She is 4-for-4 this season and last lost on August 8 in the Mistletoe Shalee, when she went off stride, at the Meadowlands. Her only other loss was July 9, 2003 in the New Jersey Sire Stakes final at the Meadowlands, when she was third, beaten by a neck.

On June 4, Rainbow Blue returned from a three-week layoff to win the second leg of the Classic Distaff at Woodbine in 1:49.2, equaling her career mark. She finished three lengths ahead of L Dees Val.

In the Lady Liberty, she will face a field of 11 other mares, including millionaires Glowing Report and Burning Point and world record holder Carolina Sunshine. Burning Point won the Open last Friday night at the Meadowlands in 1:50.3. She was the 2003 Dan Patch Award winner as best three-year-old filly pacer.
