I’mgonnagetchagood Eyes Pacific Sweep

MELROSE PARK, IL—In her only third lifetime start I’mgonnagetchagood goes for a sweep of the Pacific Series Finals in Wednesday night’s $10,000 seventh race feature at Maywood Park.

The three-year-old daughter of Jenna’s Beach Boy rallied in time to post a 1:57 victory at 12-1 odds in a Maywood Park series leg on February 9 for Beecher, IL owners Monique Bernardi and Max Hansen, and it was the fillies very first pari-mutuel start. Six nights later she captured Balmoral’s Pacific Final as the 4-5 public’s choice, also in 1:57 flat.

Wednesday night I’mgonnagetchagood will leave from the six-slot in the eight-horse field of fillies and mares and yet driver Andy Miller was still optimistic when told of her draw.

“We’ll have to see how the race sets up for her,” said Andy. “She’s still green but has done all that’s been asked of her so far and an outside slot is not always a bad thing for a green filly.”

After her come-from-behind victory here on February 9, Miller had some good things to say about the youngster.

“Gerry (trainer Hansen) told me before I got behind this horse that she was really green,” Andy said. “But she’s got a lot of sense, and is very good gaited. When I scored her down she was looking around all over the place, but when I got after her a little she straightened right up and paid attention.”

I’magonnagetchagood will be challenged Wednesday night by Miss Marie Lavoux (10-1, Ron Marsh), Maddymollymacey (4-1, Tim Tetrick), Ft Apache Annie (3-1, Sam Widger), Lady Hacker (15-1, Dale Hiteman), Cody Little Gal (12-1, Pat Wolf), American Riches (8-1, Shawn Christner) and Saratoga Rose (6-1, Tony Morgan).

Ft Apache Hanover and Maddymollymacey are both trained by Alex Adam but will race uncoupled because of different ownership. They finished fourth and sixth respectively in last week’s Balmoral Final behind I’mgonnagetchagood, however Ft Apache’s driver Sam Widger was upbeat for the Maywood Park showdown.

” I think the inside post will definitely be something that we can use to our advantage,” said Widger. “She’s very good around this oval, and I believe she’s got a good shot in here. The filly has raced tremendously thus far this year.”

Ft Apache Hanover overcame the outside eight-slot when she came from far back and posted a 1:59 victory in her Maywood Park series leg for owners Margaret Parke (IL) and Tracy Parke (FL). The filly’s three-wide winning effort had Sammy beaming in the winner’s circle.

“This mare really impressed me,” said Widger after the February 9 race. “To come three-wide the way she did from last place was really something. She is just getting stronger and stronger with each start and more and more confident as well. I’m really expecting great things in the future.”

The Pacific Series was for open company fillies and mares without two wins or $5,000 in purse earnings as of January 1, 2005.
