Salem, NH — Bruce Ranger, who was named the 2004 Coors Light Driver of the Year at Rockingham Park on Friday, won his 200th race of the meet when he was victorious with Yankee Frisbee in the second race. He then went on to win another four races to bring his record total to 204 victories with three more days of live racing to go.
On Saturday, Rockingham is proud to host the inaugural $50,000 Joseph Carney Memorial Trot, a free for all race for some of the country’s top trotters.
The race is named in honor of Mr. Carney, who served as president of Rockingham Venture from 1982 until his death in March of 2003.
Mr. Carney and his partners were instrumental in saving the horse racing industry in New Hampshire when they bought the burned out and shuttered Rockingham Park in 1980 and returned live Thoroughbred racing to the Granite State in 1984.
On Sunday, the Thoroughbreds will share the spotlight with the harness horses when the track presents a card mixing the two breeds. Eight harness races on the main track will be followed by three Thoroughbred races on the turf course. Rockingham is one of several tracks to have raced both breeds on the same card.
On Monday, the live racing season concludes with a special Labor Day holiday card, and everyone over 18 can register to win a mountain bike from Coca-Cola.
Post time throughout the holiday weekend is 1:05 p.m. every day. Full card simulcasting continues every day and evening seven days per week year round.
