I’m Dam Goog takes Cal-Expo feature

from Cal-Expo Raceway

Sacramento, CA — Cal-Expo headlined an Invitational Handicap Trot, with a purse of $8,500, on Friday night, June 4.

When I’m Dam Goog got the three hole and Hedaman the 10, the trackman made I’m Dam Goog the morning line favorite even though he hadn‘t raced in that high a class for five starts in California. He was racing in Open Handicaps and Late Closers back east before he came back home the second week of April.

I’m Dam Goog kept driving from the start until he had the top, then posted fractions of :281, :58, and 1:274, winning by three-quarters of a length in 1:571.

Richard Wojcio brought Armbro Scribe first over in a quick move on the far turn. That caught Hedaman, the second choice and looking for his fourth win in a row, at the back of the pack a bit off guard. Rocky Stidham tipped him out four lengths in arrears on the outside. All the others stayed glued to the pylons.

Ed Hensley had I’m Dam Goog cruising down the stretch and never really extended him for the win. He paid $4.00 for a $2 win ticket. Armbro Scribe was second by the aforementioned three-quarter length, but it really wasn’t that close as I’m Dam Goog was eased at the finish. Hedaman saved third, two and three-quarter lengths in back of Armbro Scribe.

Gregg Pistochini owns the winner and Hensley trains him. He is a nine-year-old gelding by Googie out of the Rowdy Yankee dam Damsel Spirit. He has now earned just over $418,250 life.
