Three new Ohio Sire Stakes winners at Northfield

Northfield, OH — The three winners of Saturday night’s (Aug. 11) Ohio Sires Stakes divisions for 3-year-old pacing fillies were each clocked in 1:52.4 or faster on a beautiful evening under mild skies.

Baron Remy wins an Ohio Sire Stakes leg in 1:52.2 at Northfield Park on Saturday.

In the first $40,000 division, even-money favorite Baron Remy, a Ron Burke trainee, paced to a winning 1:52 clocking with Chris Page at the lines. The Yankee Cruiser lass was second in legs one and three of the series for owners Burke Racing, Silva, Purnell& Libby, L Karr and Weaver Bruscemi.

Sweetnfamous (Matt Kakaley) was second at 11-1 odds, while 60-1 longshot Tipp City (Sandy Beatty) was third.

Baron Remy now has $191,934 in career earnings from five wins in 18 starts. She was bred by the Baron Racing Stable and is a half-sister to Gerard N Mo (by Rock N Roll Heaven).

Matt Kakaley steered the Steve Carter owned & trained Velocity McSweets to a 1:52.4 clocking in the second OSS division. This McArdle filly, out of the Western Hanover mare Playful Sweetheart, left the gate at 3-2 odds and enjoyed a front-stepping journey to win her eighth win of the year in 18 starts.

Pure Paradise, the 7-2 choice, was second by a head for Chris Page, while 7-5 Bad Girls Rule (David Miller) was third. Velocity McSweets now has $67,440 in career earnings and is a half-sister to Velocity Headlight (by I Am A Fool) p, 5 1:52s ($100,465).

Lily Grace, a 9-1 mild longshot, put in one of the most gutsy performances of the evening, leading from gate to wire for Joey Putnam, and holding off the hard-trying 1-1 favorite Up Front Flor Ida (Kayne Kauffman) by a head in the third OSS division.

The daughter of Shark Gesture was timed in 1:52.3 for the one mile test. Princess Rougarou (Matt Kakaley) picked up show honors at 11-1 odds.

Lily Grace is trained and co-owned by Dan O’Mara for Dawne Luce and breeder Teresa Maddox. She has amassed $79,520 earned lifetime and is the first foal out of the Whatanartist mare Chappy’s Cali.
