Thirteen Standardbreds safe; 25 still at risk

from the Standardbred Retirement Foundation

Cream Ridge, NJ — Twenty-five of 38 Standardbreds waiting with hope to be spared the trip to slaughter are still at great risk. The Standardbred Retirement Foundation is asking for help for them. Some are tagged for the trip Wednesday (Aug. 8) from loading, a few have until Friday.

Of those saved on Tuesday, Bullville Kriss, Nu Example, and Icey Rose were taken back by breeders and owners, while Fox Valley Tucson and Royal Nation were saved privately. Crazy Horse, R M Fantasie, Clam Sauce, and Red Energy were released from the manifest and are safe, but need homes. Davinci and Shezlikemycousin are also safe and have homes. Granny Clampet and Mystical China are safe but have no home offers. Twenty-five still need funds for their release from the trip to slaughter, and also need homes.

Donations for horses whose “kill prices” are paid for either need a home or funds to carry them through quarantine, rehabilitation, homing and the follow-up process so they are never at risk again. SRF is unable to take on any more horses at this time, with 393 under their expense and care, so homes are also very much needed.

These horses range from emaciated to healthy and are wanting a new life as pleasure horses whether for riding, driving or just grazing well deserved green grass. Most had days on the track followed by years of pulling heavy farm equipment and/or served as transportation. The deadline for several is Wednesday night, others have until Friday.

We have several ways your can help:
