Plainridge Park to draw 2-year-old series Thursday

by Tim Bojarski, for the Standardbred Owners of Massachusetts

Plainville, MA — Anyone interested in racing their 2-year-old trotter or pacer in the Harbor Lights Open Late Closer series at Plainridge Park on Monday (Aug. 13) must make their entries by 9 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 9) when the box closes.

The Wood End Light is an Open late closer for 2-year-old trotters with a $12,500 preliminary leg on Monday (Aug. 13) and a $15,000 leg on Monday (Sept. 3). The final will be held on Monday (Sept. 17) with a purse of $20,000.

The Nauset Light is an Open late closer for 2-year-old pacers with a $12,500 preliminary leg on Monday (Aug. 13) and a $15,000 leg on Monday (Sept. 3). The final will also be held on Monday (Sept. 17) with a purse of $20,000.

Both of these series have no nominating or starting fees and will be divided by gender if there are enough entries to do so. The conditions do not mandate racing in more than one leg to be eligible for the final so this is an opportunity for any 2-year-old who got a late start to the season or are currently gearing up for upcoming stakes like the $1.28 million (est.) Massachusetts Sire Stakes that kick off on Monday (Oct. 1).

For further information or to call in entries, please contact the race office or Race Secretary Paul Verrette at 508.576.4485 or 508.576.4486.
