Dean Beachy killed in Pennsylvania shooting

Columbus, OH — According to multiple media reports, Dean Beachy, 62, of Millersburg, Ohio, a well-known Standardbred sales auctioneer who also owned Standardbred racehorses, was shot and killed in a Pennsylvania hotel bar and grill on Thursday night (Jan. 24). It has also been reported that two other people, including the gunman, died and two others were wounded and hospitalized.

According to coverage by WHTM-TV (ABC 27) in State College, Pa., “The first shooting happened at P. J. Harrigan’s Bar & Grill on Atherton Street around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

“Police said 21-year-old Jordan Witmer, of Bellefonte, shot and killed 62-year-old Dean Beachy of Millersburg, Ohio. He also shot a man and a woman who were in critical condition.

“Investigators said Witmer then drove from the restaurant and crashed his car at Waupelani Drive, near the State College YMCA. He broke into a home and fatally shot 83-year-old George McCormick.

“McCormick’s wife locked herself in a bedroom and called 911, police said. Officers arrived at the home and found Witmer dead of a self-inflicted gunshot.”
