Wagner wins four on Sunday at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — John Wagner posted four wins and Frank Milby three, highlighting a Sunday night (March 3) card in a cold driving rain at Rosecroft Raceway.

Milby book ended the card, taking the early Daily Double with Redwood Again ($17.40) for owner Courtney Brooks and trainer Rusty Cox. Leaving from post seven, he cleared after the first quarter and held off chief rival Jack Quick, who had beaten him the past two weeks, in 1:54.1. In race two, Milby rallied Crafty Ace ($8.20) first over, grinding down pacesetter Owens Spirit and holding off runner-up Bluebird Goldwyn in 1:56. It was the first of two wins for owner William Cantrell and trainer John Cabot.

Milby finished off the card with a win aboard Hey Dali ($23.60) for owner Kevin Shaplin and trainer Greg Trotto. He made a significant brush past the half to lead and held off a hard charging Atomic Art and Jared Moyer for the win. Hey Dali was claimed two weeks ago and has now won both starts for his new barn.

Deacon’s Valley took the top spot in the $9,000 featured trot, holding off a game Uknow What To Do, who was parked the mile, in 1:57.3. Russell Foster put his charge on the front and Sean Bier was hoping to get a tuck but never did, yet his charge stayed right there with the consistent winner at Rosecroft to miss by a head and complete a $51.60 exacta. It was the 26th lifetime win for the 9-year old Valley Victor stallion for the team of Cantrell and Cabot.

Wagner’s night was impressive, most notably in race eight with Mister Indiana ($17.60). The 7-year-old Quality Western gelding was one for his last 37 but had picked up checks in three of his last six starts in $17,500 claimers at Dover. Wagner rallied from seventh and caught leader Sawbuck Hanover in the final strides in 1:54.3 for owners Bill Rice Racing and trainer Eli Scott.

Tom’s Typhoon ($9.00) continued on an uptick as he easily defeated his race seven foes in 1:56.2 for Wagner and owner-trainer Arlene Cameron, who trained three winners on the night. Wagner also guided Adios Muchachos ($5.60) to a win for Cameron in 1:56. Cameron’s third win came when Jared Moyer rallied Jimmy’s Secret to a win for a second straight week, defeating his $5,000 claiming foes in 1:56.

Wagner gave In Record Time ($2.60) his second win at the $7,500 claiming level in 1:55.3 for WG LLC and trainer Michael Greene.

Ricky Still sent Believe In Him ($4.20) to the winner’s circle for a third straight race in 1:57.3. The daughter of Conway Hall held off Windsong Ingenius for owner-trainer Betsy Brown, James Brown and Morgan Marston.

Owner-trainer Jason Walters has had a solid first month with three wins as Lil’ Johnny zoomed to victory Sunday night in 1:53.2 for driver Jason Green.

The father and son team of Kim Vincent and Justin Vincent picked up wins as the elder Vincent swooped by the field with McArdle Royale N ($15.00) from last in 1:58 for James Rideout and Strategic Racing Stable. It was the second win in three starts in 2019 for trainer Roy Jarmin’s 10-year-old McArdle gelding. The younger Vincent posted a win with longtime Rosecroft veteran Varsity Hanover, who picked up his 23rd lifetime win for owner-trainer James Whalen Jr.

Wednesday night’s card gets underway at 6:40 p.m., with a guaranteed $2,500 Pick-5, which starts with a $1,241.71 carryover.
