Declan Donoway posts driving triple at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — There is a “P” listed next to Declan Donoway’s name in the racing program. While that “P” stands for provisional driver, it could also stand for progress as he scored his first driving triple Wednesday night (May 8) at Rosecroft Raceway.

The 19-year-old Donoway’s career best night came with multiple types of wins.

His first came with Gamblers Anonymous ($14.40) who was next to last at the half, but when :55.3 popped up on the clock, the closer commenced her rally. By the top of the stretch, Donoway and the daughter of Badlands Hanover had cleared the field and drew off by four to win in 1:55.4. Freddy Collazo trains the winner for Spencer Goldin.

Don Dorado ($28.20) a winner of more than $500,000 lifetime, still displays the speed on the front and Donoway rationed it out nicely in 1:56.1. Harry Smith Jr. and Carolyn Smith own the 8-year-old son of Donato Hanover who is conditioned by Erica Wagner.

Hickory Pandle ($3.60) was down in class and was sitting the pocket when pacesetter Spinvision started to falter. Donoway pulled his heavily favored mare and she roared home to win by six lengths in 1:53.4 for owner-trainer Richard Malone Jr.

Miss Choptank ($7.20) redeemed herself after getting beaten as the favorite last week, as she rebounded to win the $12,500 Open Handicap for mares in 1:52.4. It was the first of two wins for driver Bill Long who won for Legacy Racing of Delaware and Stephen Townsend. Wayne Givens trains the former Maryland Sires Stakes champion who picked up her 16th lifetime win in 40 starts.

Long also won with Sweetascantab who trotted a lifetime best 1:59 for owner-trainer Barry Kingston.

Roger Plante also posted a double on the 15-race card as he won back-to-back races with Mr Misunderstood ($5.00) for Ronald and Heather Malone in 1:57. Plante ‘s second win came aboard Junkyard Treasure ($4.20) for owner-trainer Deweese Butler in 1:54.4.
