In a $7,250 trotting event on Wednesday, the sophomore drew the rail and was subsequently the public’s 2-5 betting favorite while seeking to complete the grand slam. Despite getting off to a bit of a slow start, Southwind Falcon wound up second-over approaching the half-mile pole as the two rivals slugged it out toe-to-toe throughout the first lap.

The dueling leaders tired and Southwind Falcon swooped right by to assume command before drawing away late to score in 1:58.2. It was the fourth win in a row and eighth of the season in just sixteen starts for the Harp trainee. The Vernon-based trotter is owned by Diane and Venetia Harp of Oneida, NY.

Live racing continues at Saratoga on Thursday (Sept 26) afternoon with a first post time at Noon. There will be a Pick-Five carryover on Thursday of $3,884. The Pick-Five begins in the matinee’s first race.
