A And G’sconfusion set a world record of 1:50.3 as a 2-year-old in the Bluegrass Stakes at The Red Mile.

The 5-year-old mare by Allamerican Native suffered a fractured hock earlier in the year and never fully recovered, having made six fruitless starts in 2010 with a qualifying mark of 1:53.3 at Mohawk.

A And G’sconfusion had a spectacular year for Capone as a 2-year-old in 2007, winning five of 10 starts and $817,020 in purses. Major wins included the She’s A Great Lady and Three Diamonds. Her 1:50.3 mark in a Bluegrass Stakes division at Lexington still stands as a world record for 2-year-old pacing fillies on a mile track. That year, she was named 2-year-old Filly Pacer of the Year.

“The fillies have come close to breaking her record this year, but they haven’t been able to do it yet,” said Capone, who trained the mare at 2 and 5. “She was a great horse and a pleasure to train.”

A And G’sconfusion, owned by Willie Tomlin’s A & G Stables, will become a broodmare next year. She retired with 10 wins and $1,472,566 in purse earnings. At 3 she won the Breeders Crown. She was profiled in the February 2008 issue of Hoof Beats.
