A moment of silence to remember Dennis Walton

by Patricia P. Miller, for GLADA

Hazel Park, MI — Following the noise and thrill of Monday’s amateur race, GLADA drivers, Hazel Park associates, and friends of the late Assistant Race Secretary Dennis Walton will gather after the fifth race in the winner’s circle for a moment of silence to honor and remember him.

Mr. Walton, GLADA’s best booster and hard working secretary, promoted amateur racing and helped establish the program on Mondays at Hazel Park.

Mr. Walton bustled about the track on race nights, making sure all the amateurs were ready to go, encouraging and reminding and rooting for the club members as they paraded out to the track. He was so proud of the winner and often was in the winner’s circle and in the photograph of family and friends. No one took more pride in GLADA’s race program than Dennis Walton.

In honor of his accomplishments, GLADA named its annual scholarship award in hs memory, the Dennis Walton Scholarship. This award honors the scholastic ambitions and efforts of the children of Michigan horsemen. Mr. Walton was especially interested in furthering youth involvement and education.

Family, friends and associates are welcome to join the GLADA club members in the winner’s circle for this important moment of solemn memory and reflection on the life and accomplishments of Dennis Walton.
