Toronto, ON — A Pippin Hanover took charge from the outset and did not look back in capturing Thursday’s (Feb. 11) C$60,000 Miss Vera Bars Pacing Series final for 3-year-old fillies at Woodbine Racetrack in a stakes record clocking of 1:53.4.

A Pippin Hanover was a 1:53.4 winner in the Miss Vera Bars Pacing Series final.

Driver Jody Jamieson sent the daughter of Dragon Again-Appleonia Art straight to the front from post seven in the field of eight and the filly got away with sensible splits of :28.1 and :57.4 in the opening half before picking up the tempo in the third quarter.

In the meantime, race favorite Pebble Creek started her move from the back, following the cover of the first-over Windows Online. As that rival began to stall, Jamieson went for broke with A Pippin Hanover and opened up by 1-3/4 lengths at the third station in 1:25.3.

A Pippin Hanover extended that lead to 3-1/2 lengths at the top of the stretch and Jamieson kept her mind on business over the final quarter. Pebble Creek rallied effectively but fell two lengths short at the finish with Lucky Cheryl rounding out the top three. The winner returned $6.10 as the second choice in the wagering.

It was the third win in just four career tries for the Kris Di Cenzo trainee who is owned by Antonio Chiaravalle. The lion’s share of the purse increased her earnings to just over C$55,000.
