A Yonkers’ (not quite) million-dollar Monday

Yonkers, NY – The first of the month brought out investors, with Yonkers  Raceway’s Monday night (July 1) reaching the doorstep of seven figures.

The dozen-race July opener attracted a total handle of $998,719.

Monday’s Pick-5, with a carryover of more than $4,200, a $15,000 guaranteed pool and a lengthy delay (bank of lights out) prior to the start of the wager, saw $35,422 of new coin fill the till.

After takeout, that left an approximate pot of $30,803 and a winning combination of 3/2/7/1/4,7, which returned $1,431.25 for every correct half-a-buck ticket.

Warminster A’s $23 win in a three-horse photo helped boost the value of Yonkers’ Pick-5 payout Monday. Georgia Panagi Photo.

Warminster A (Steve Smith, $23) took down a three-horse photo in the $18,500, eighth-race pace (1:58.4 for the mile-and-one-sixteenth), ensuring value for the wager.

Tuesday’s (July 2) Pick-5 starts from scratch with its usual $10,000 guarantee (50-cent base wager, races seven through 11).
